ATM COP to USD: Offered Rate vs Reference Rate
A converter rate is a starting point, not necessarily the price your card issuer or ATM will give you.
Identify who performs the conversion
Some terminals offer to convert a local-currency charge into the card currency. Read the exchange-rate disclosure and any markup before choosing.
Add every fee
Record any visible ATM surcharge and your card issuer’s foreign transaction or withdrawal charges. Two machines using similar rates can produce different net costs.
Compare equivalent amounts
Use the same COP withdrawal size and compute the net USD cost. Do not compare rates quoted at different times or for different transaction sizes.
Keep the receipt
Save the amount dispensed, transaction date and any displayed fees so you can compare with your eventual bank statement.
